Lessons Schedule and Content will be specific to student --------------------------------------------------- DETAILED COURSE DESCRIPTION - Technical Studies: scales, arpeggios, walking bass lines, harmonic progression, note reading, chart reading, 'numbers', slap technique, right and left hand technique, etc. - Style Studies: pop, rock, country, reggae, r&b, soul, funk, latin, jazz, gospel, etc. - Melodic Studies: soloing/improv concepts, jazz harmony and tension, melodic analysis, modal playing - Repertoire: rhythm/accompaniment and solo pieces in a variety of commercial styles - Jury: Prepared piece to be performed at the scheduled Jury Recital date - Study of Commercial Ensemble Tunes when applicable - Chart Reading: Traditional and Numbers - Note Reading Studies: Bach for Bass text, Reading Contemporary Electric Bass text |

Major Assignments Schedule |
Week 8: Midterm Juries - Tuesday, April 30th 12pm-TBA * Midterm may be a combination of written, aural and/or performance. Juries are a professional performance in front of a panel of commercial music instructors. * Juries are a professional performance and will be presented in front of a panel of music faculty. Students are expected to dress formally for the jury. A sign up sheet will be posted in the PAC leading up to the juries. |

Determination of Final Grade |
This is a 2 credit course that is required to meet 4 hours per week, one contact hour with your applied faculty plus three additional hours, exclusive of course preparation. In other words, you are expected to practice at least three hours per week in addition to your lesson. Attendance Policy |
Research has shown a cause and effect relationship between attendance and college success. There are 16 weeks in every semester; students are expected to attend at least 15 lessons per semester. You are afforded one free absence before unexcused absences count against you. Final grades will be reduced 5 points for every lesson missed. 5 or more unexcused absences may result in a failing grade. Excused absences must meet the following criteria: death in the family, medical related emergency, illness with doctor's note. Any cause beyond this will be left up to instructor discretion. Excused absences will be considered on a case by case basis. YOU MUST E-MAIL YOUR INSTRUCTOR BEFORE YOU MISS CLASS with an explanation of why you will be absent. The date and time of the e-mail will be considered. Excused absences are conditional upon this. Any deviation will be considered at the discretion of the instructor. |
